Spring Home Decor Ideas

Spring has sprung and it's time to get the home decor in order.  When I think of spring, I think bright colors.  Here's a little inspiration to get your juices flowing.

1) Create a spring wreath - give your guests a nice greeting before entering your home.

2) Change your bed linens - with warmer weather it's time to get rid of the heavy comforters and go with a lighter option.

3) Bring in greenery - add those pops of green throughout the house to bring the outdoors in.

4) Change out your pillows - they instantly change the look of your room.

5) Create a succulent garden - these mini little plants bring color and more of nature indoors.

6) Add bright colors - switch out the darker colors for lighter pastels.

7) Change your wall decor - add more colors to the walls.

8) Fresh flowers - nothing says fresh and new like freshly picked flowers on the table.

9) Swap out your rug - just like pillows a lighter rug makes the room feel lighter as well.

10) Freshen up your accessories - re-arrange your shelves with different items.

I have yet to even think about spring decor in my own home but seeing some of these has got my gears turning.

Beautiful Barn Doors

Good morning!  How was your Easter weekend?  We enjoyed ours.  Chill on Saturday and church Sunday morning.  We ended it with a family dinner.  I can't say I got much done this weekend but I feel more relaxed since we didn't get into too much.

I've been seeing more barn doors lately.  I really love the look of these doors in home decor.  Hubby and I have talked about replacing the double door entrance to our bathroom with one.

I love these blue ones.

This one looks like it would go perfect in our room.

I love the windows at the top of this one.

How about that pop of color?

I really like the barn door on this pantry.

I love the glass panels on this one.

Are you loving the barn door look too?

IKEA's Easter PASKBORD Buffet

It's Friday.  It's Friday.  The end of the week is here.

Tonight we are attending IKEA's traditional Swedish Easter Smorgasborg buffet here in Atlanta.  It's called the PASKBORD.  This annual buffet celebrates spring and the Easter holiday.  Guests will enjoy a traditional meal of classic Swedish food.  The menu will include Swedish meatballs with mashed potatoes, smoked salmon, Swedish ham, and cheeses.  I love their meatballs so I definitely looking forward to those.  I'll be sure to leave room for assorted desserts and beverages to top it all off.

The event is from 6:00-8:00 pm at IKEA locations across the country.  The ticket cost is $16.99 per person and $4.99 for kids 12 and under.  IKEA FAMILY members only pay $12.99 per person and $2.99 for kids 12 and under.  If you are not an IKEA FAMILY member, you can sign up in-store or online.  Becoming a member gets you perks like discounts and and sneak previews.

For those of you that cannot attend, you can still enjoy some of the Swedish food in your home.  You can purchase many of the items that will be included in the PASKBORD, like the famous meatballs, at the Swedish Food Market in IKEA stores.

"Food is a staple for celebrating with family and friends." - Patricia Meumann, Ikea Food Manager

I would love to know if you plan on attending.  I'd love to meet you!

While there, use hashtag #AllYouCanEatATL.

PB Teen Inspired Pinboard

On Monday I showed you the plans for my daughter's room makeover.  For her desk area, she wanted a place to hang her artwork and the little notes that she writes.  I decided a pinboard was the perfect solution.  We both really like this pink polka dot one from PB Teen but $89 is a lot for me to swallow.  Nothing like a good 'ole DIY project to the rescue.

I picked up a large pinboard from Goodwill for a few bucks.

I originally wanted to paint the frame white but decided to just cover the whole thing with fabric.  I picked up some pink printed fabric from Hobby Lobby.  To start, I laid the fabric over the board and centered it.  I tried to line up the fabric along the edges as best as I could to keep the pattern straight.

I used silver push pins around the edges to create a nail head look.

I spaced the pins an inch apart using a yard stick.  Pushing in ALL.THOSE.PINS took the longest.  I would push one in only to realize it didn't line up the same as the last one.  Let's just say my thumbs may be sore for a few days.  Make sure to pull the fabric taught so it doesn't sag in the center when hung.

After all my pins were in, it was time to adhere the leftover fabric to the back of the board.  I started out using packing tape but ended up using staples since they were more secure.  It was easier to start in the center and do the corners last.

I wrapped the corners like I would a present.

It fits perfectly above her desk.

It looks just as good as the PB Teen version but cost me so much less money.  Plus it's custom because we chose our own fabric.  I'm excited to see how good it's going to look against a gray wall instead of green once the walls are painted.

So how'd I do?  What's your favorite DIY project that was inspired by a pricier version?

Check out the room plans here

Girl's Room Makeover Plans

Happy Monday!  It was sunny and 70 here this weekend so we enjoyed it.  We had family in town so we soaked up as much time with them as possible.

So guess who wants a room makeover now?  My daughter, of course.  It all started with a new bed.  We liked the one she had but with little brother getting a new bed, she wanted a new one too.  I took the new bed a a whole room makeover so it's not completely her doing.  Her current room is green which I loved at the beginning.  It was the first room complete when we moved so I was still unsure of some of my direction for the entire house.  The green was fun while it lasted but it's time for a change.  We are going gray!

The whole room color scheme will be gray, pink, turquoise blue, and gold.  I never thought I would be throwing gold in but it's grown on me.  I think the gold will add some glam to balance out the other fun colors in the room.  Here's the plan.

First, we'll start with gray walls.  I'll probably stick with Behr Silver Sateen like my son's room.  It's a great color and isn't too light but gives some warmth to the room.  I showed my daughter a room with gold polka dot walls and she was sold.  We'll use wall decals to achieve the look for the wall behind the bed.

For the bed, she's chosen a gray upholstered headboard and new bedding.  I originally wanted white bedding but she insisted on color.  We'll add colorful pillows for pops of color.

For her desk area, she's asked for somewhere to display notes and artwork.  I really like this pinboard from PB teen but I think making my own will feel better on the wallet.  She mentioned a wire hanging system like this one from Ikea but I think the pinboard will be better suited for her.

Since her brother got her old Trofast shelf she got a new organizer shelf from Target.  The colorful bins that go along with it will store legos, Shopkins, and beading supplies.  Oh how I love all those little beads that get lost from the rest of the bunch!  Above the shelf will be a gallery wall.  There currently is one but many of the prints will be changed out and I'll add some more gold accents.  A lot of the room colors are based around this print from Minted.

She's super excited to get going.  We've already purchased many of the items so this should be an easy makeover.  The biggest thing is painting and we aren't looking forward to it.  Her room is large and I'm thinking it may take a few coats to cover the green paint.

Look a Likes: Metal Chairs

Today I want to talk about chairs.  I see this style of chair around and I love it.  They look so industrial and cute.  I have thought about changing our breakfast room chairs and I think we would be a good contender.  They would coordinate with the bar stools in the kitchen and they are easy to keep clean.  They would be easy for the kids to sit in and I wouldn't have to worry about them falling too far to the ground.  If you do a search online, they vary in price from $50 to $400.  Here are some of my favorites.

I'm really feeling the rustic, industrial, and modern feel of these.

Do you like this style?
