Wall Mounted TV and Hiding The Cords

Image
We mounted the loft TV on the wall last week.  We knew we didn't want those ugly cords connected to the TV to be seen.  I had done a few searches to see what our options were for hiding them.  Turns out, there are several.  My least favorite was the cord cover and I knew that wasn't going to work for me. Here are the pieces we bought from Home Depot.  They are wall plates that allow you to pull the cords through but keep them hidden in the wall. After we figured out where we wanted the holes, using the template in the package, we cut a hole right under the TV mount for the cords coming from the TV.  It made me a little nervous cutting a hole in the wall.  The cords also needed a place to exit at the bottom.  We cut the second hole straight down from the top one, right next to the outlet where the cords would be plugged in. To make it easier to get the dropped cords, we installed the top plate first.  It just goes into the hol...

Friday Five

Another work week down.  You got anything fun planned for the weekend?  It's supposed to warm up here to 70 so we'll see.  The weather has been crazy...40 one day and 70 the next. There are a lot of pretty things that have caught my eye this week. 1) This girl's bedroom is beautiful!  I love the pink and white stripes.  My daughter would absolutely love it but I know hubby ain't painting her room again anytime soon.   2) Target is stepping their pouf game up this season.  I've been peeping these Threshold Lattice ones.  I love me a graphic print. 3) I'm still searching for dining chairs and came across these from Overstock .  I like the tufting and neutral color.   4) West Elm has their coffee and side tables on sale for 20% off right now.  I've been drawn to this style for a while.  It's a simple box with a mix of metal and wood.  Very classic but modern all in one.  Even on sale I feel l...

A New Kitchen Faucet

Image
One of the updates that I have been wanting to take on is the kitchen faucet. Our appliances and cabinet handles are stainless and the light fixtures are nickel.  The obvious option is for the faucet to be stainless as well right?   Here's what I've been looking at for the past few years.  It works fine but I hate the chrome and it's a pretty basic faucet.  Nothing special. For what seems like ages, I've been bugging my husband for a new one.  I think I looked at faucets just about every time we went in Home Depot.  Well guess what, he finally caved!  I started looking online for deals and reading reviews.  It's not a major purchase but I didn't want to remove the old faucet, install the new one and end up not liking it or something going wrong, remove it and take it back.  Once it was in, I didn't want to do anything else.  I wanted a pull down sprayer faucet in stainless.  Preferably a gooseneck. I finally decided on ...

Side Table Makeover

Image
Happy Monday good people! Months back I found this cute little table in Target clearance.  Sometimes when I go in Target, I'm never really looking for anything but those red stickers always catch my attention.  I end up with a cart full of stuff that I had no intention of buying.  Anyway, I bought this table with the intention of using it in my daughter's room as a nightstand since it was pink.  I tried it in there but didn't really like it.  So instead of returning it, I kept it in hopes of using it somewhere else.     Since we are decorating the loft space, I decided to use it there.  The pink wasn't going to work so the color had to change.  I checked my spray paint collection for some blue and got to work.  There are a few screws underneath to remove the top from the wire frame so it was an easy job. After a few coats of blue, the table looks great.     It's a great spot for a drink or the remote....

Upstairs Loft: Plans

Image
Right at the top of the stairs, we have a loft area.  This area has been empty since we've been here.  It's really been the catchall for things that no longer fit into any other room at the time.  Around Christmas, it looked like a toy store with all the kids' toys all spread out.  We decided it was time to do something with this space. Last week I showed you the new pillow covers I ordered from H&M.  I don't really have a set color scheme for this room.  I just want it to be fun and a place where we can lounge and watch movies.  Kind of a media space.   Here's what we're thinking. The main piece in the room will be a gray sectional.  We wanted something functional that we could all lounge on.  I really wanted gray because I knew there would be a possibility we would be eating and drinking up there, so the gray should cover any stains or mishaps.  It will go on the right wall when you first walk up the stai...

Hall Bathroom Is Done!

Image
I finally finished.  It's probably been finished for a while.  I had some pieces but hadn't put them in the room yet.  What I thought would take me a month or so took a few months.  I see what I want it to look like in my head but sometimes the pieces don't always fall into place like I want them to.  I think I was over thinking things.  This bathroom doesn't need to be fancy or over the top.  It's going to be for my son and any guests that we do have over.  I want simple and fresh.  So here goes. I love the soft blue-gray in this room.  It makes it light and airy in here.  Now that the mirror is framed, it pops off instead of blending into the walls.  I went with a white frame to keep the colors light.  I almost went dark but changed my mind last minute in the store.  All the bathroom mirrors are framed now and make such an improvement in the look of the bathroom itself.  More of a finished look instead of ...

Dining Chair Options

Image
Yesterday I posted on Facebook that I sold our dining room chairs.  I was never really a fan of them but they came with the table so I lived with them. That is, until I was seeing other styles that I liked.  Sure, we don't use the table often but I at least want the dining room to look good and be a reflection on our current style.  It has changed over the past few years.  If you look at pictures from the last three years of living here, our house doesn't look the same. Here are the previous chairs... They had a curved, slatted back that wasn't really that comfortable.  If we were to have guests over for a fancy dinner party (yeah right), I at least want them to eat in comfort.  You want them to relax and be able to linger after dinner's over.  The seats were a tan microfiber which is great for messes but I need something different. With the new chairs, I think I want something tufted.  Oh yes, the drama!  The tufts just look ...
