Decorating Cents

Is it M onday already ?   I don't know about you guys, but I have lots of wood scraps laying around in the garage.  I decided to put them to use.  I like quote signs so this was an obvious choice.   I chose a small piece of 1x4 and got to work.  With the addition of craft paint and a brush, this was an easy little project. I first painted my wood with some black craft paint usin g m y foam brush .  Since I don't have a cutting machine and I didn't bother to print and trace a stencil, I free-handed the words in pen cil so I could e rase if I m ade a mistake.  W hich I did several times .  I chose the word blessed. After a few coats of white paint to fill in my words, I had a cheap little sign I could put anywhere.  I used a tiny bristled brush for this step. The paint most used in my house is Behr.  It's affordable and the paint is easy to work with.  When I buy it, I know what I'm getting myself into. Recently I saw they posted the color trends for 2017.  These are 20 limited edition colors that are trendy and will help you create a loved and livable home.  You can choose colors to fit your personality. I think I am more drawn to the Composed Palette.  I am more into blues and grays.  According to Behr, the Composed Palette includes earth tones and jewel tones.  They are more of a backdrop to allow you to show off your other decor.  I love the Laid Back Gray and Wanderlust.  They are very similar to colors I already have in my home. The Confident Palette has brighter colors.  They are adventurous and more dramatic.  These are colors I would consider accents or used more for the decor and not the walls.  But like the name says, if you want to make a statement...

Hello and welcome to Friday.  Can I get a w hoop whoop ? A few weekends ago I decided it was time to upgrade the boa rd and batten in the back entry.  I wanted it to be a little taller and more hooks.  I felt like only the kids had room for th eir jacke ts and backpacks.  Their stuff was hogging it all. Well now every one's got some space.  We do have a coat closet to the left but it's easy to ju st walk in and hang up your purse or jacket without immediately goi ng to the closet. I had some leftover pieces from the bottom poplar boards in the garage so I just extended it up.  I like the two rows of hooks instead of just the one. I had to buy a 1x4 for the top horizontal board and a 1x2 for the ledge.  I like the little ledge at the top so I can lean stuff on it.  For now it's got my paint stick project and a blue monogram.  It also gives it a finished look. I feel like I'm in the home stretch with my daughter's room makeover.  There are always a few small things I want to get done before I reveal them.  Ever since the room was painted gray, she's been loving it so I can take my time for all she cares.  Painting over the green made the room feel so much more calm and larger. I knew from the start I wanted to do another gallery wall in her room.  I got rid of the old prints because she was over the whole butterfly thing and wanted to tone down the colors to just a few.  We've decided to stick with pinks, blues, white, and gold.  This print from Minted is the star of the wall.  I loved this print the moment I saw it.  It had all the colors we were going for and it had a playful effect with the watercolors. Good morning!  Now that we're pa st the hurdle called Monday, the rest of the week should be great right? Our master bathroom has been a s low work in progress.  It was painted and mirro rs framed but that's about it.  As a homeowner, you start realizing how much everything costs and th at 'to-do' list suddenly becomes a 'let 's save up for it' list.  One thing I can now check off that to-do list is faucets.     I wanted something curvy but modern in a nickel finish and these fit the bill just fine.  This is the Elden Single Control faucet .  I love them.  We have 3 holes on our sinks but that wasn't a problem.  The faucets came with a deck plate to cover the other two holes.  The number of holes in your sink is something you definitely have to remember.   The faucets were super simple to install. The hardest part was removing the old faucets.   I wanted a faucet with a single handle....

I received the new Wayfair catalog this week and O.M.G.  There's so much goodness in it.  The deep and vibrant colors in their fall line are amazing!  The cover alone made me put everything else down and open it up.  I'm not a traditional fall color girl when it comes to decorating my home but I definitely think a punch of color is in order this year. Since we have been here a little over five years, I wanted to go back and look at the makeovers that have been done so far.  If you missed the downstairs, go here .    My daughter's room was one of the first to be fini shed.  Here's the before.  Definitely not appealing for a spunky girl like mine. I filled her wall up with DIY art , put up a temporary light , made some DIY curtains a nd pillows , bought a desk , a nd made a sunburst mirro r for over her dresser.
