Decorating Cents

Say hello to some new members of our house.  I had been eying these chairs on Target's website for a while.    I originally ordered these but once they were assembled and in the room, it was too much blue and not enough contrast.  I returned them and ordered the white ones instead. I almost didn't get the new chairs because they were always out of stock.  For a couple weeks after Christmas, I was stalking checking everyday to see if they were in stock yet.  I love the mix of colors on them.  They blend perfectly with the rest of the house and will allow me to add more color into the living room.  I used the fretwork pillows from the family room to pull out the blue.   We're thinking of adding a small sofa or love seat to add more weight to this space.  I wanted to go with just the chairs, but they are too small by themselves.   What do you think about a red or blue sofa?  Did you notice the room is painted now?  And yes, we need anothe

I have grown fond of blue and red.  These are the colors of the primary accents in my home.  I used to be all about the reds but since moving into a new home, the blues are making quite an appearance.  They are two colors that mesh so well together.   I've seen this project in many places but decided to give it a try. Supplies used: 4" x 4" tiles scrapbook paper mod podge 1 inch foam brush Polycrylic sheet of felt My tiles are 4" x 4" so I started by cutting my paper into 3.75" x 3.75" squares. Apply a later of Mod Podge on the face of the tile.   Center the paper in the middle and coat with one layer of Mod Podge.  Allow this layer to dry for 15 minutes and do a second coat.  My first layer went west to east and my second layer went north to south.  This creates a grid looking pattern when the Mod Podge dries.   I wanted to make sure my tiles were really sealed and waterproof.  I had some Polycrylic in my stash and gave the tiles one coat.  It also gives the tile a shine.   After the tiles dried, I applied a 3.75" x 3.75" piece of felt to the back of each tile with glue.  Don't want to scratch up my table. I finally cut and hemmed the Ikea curtains I hung a few weeks ago.  If you saw my Facebook post, then you know I just hung them up right out of the pack .  I was trying to make sure I really wanted to go with white curtains before I cut them up and couldn't take them back.  I washed each panel so they would shrink before I cut them.  After washing, I cut each panel in half.  I hemmed the raw side edge of the panels using stitch witchery and hemmed the bottom using the hem tape that came with the panels.   The white panels make the room clean and simple.  I plan to add color in other ways.  Maybe a blue or red sideboard on the stenciled wall.  I've been looking for a nice round mirror to go above the sideboard.  I don't want too much action on that wall competing with the stencil.   Hopefully I can find a bright piece of artwork to go between the windows. There are many tutorials out there for tiling a back splash. We actually learned a lot from this video and watching countless hours of HGTV and DIY Network.  Here's the rundown on how we tiled our kitchen. Supplies we used: 1x2 mosaic tiles 1x1 mosaic tiles for filling in gaps along edges and corners tile adhesive (we used pre-mixed) notched trowel spacers rubber float glass tile nippers grout sponge and bucket grout sealer grout caulk to match your grout Steo by step: We started by making sure the wall was clean and dry. Using the notched trowel, apply the adhesive to the wall and remove excess using the notches on the edges. Press on one sheet of tiles at a time.  You want to use spacers between the tiles and top of countertop.  Two hard surfaces should never meet because of expansion and contraction. Press firmly against the face of the tiles with the rubber float to make sure the tiles are adhered to the wall. Continue to lay the tile sheets until you

I've been wanting to show you guys all week but since I don't get home until after dark, it was hard to get some decent pictures.  Here goes. The tiles are grey, brown, tan, and white.  Hubby chose this one.  I was leaning more towards a neutral tan and white set but glad we chose this one instead.  It pops more and has a good mix of colors that will go good with the future dark cabinets.  The back splash will pop out instead of blending in.  I picked up a few faux plants and pots from Ikea.   I was finally able to find some stainless containers to match the rest of the kitchen appliances at Target.   Now for the hard part, painting the cabinets.
