Favorites of 2015

Image
Howdy folks.  How was your Christmas?  I hope it was merry and was filled with lots of love, gifts, and time off.  We hosted at our house this year.  It was nice to not have to pack up or go anywhere.  I kept the holiday decor simple this year.  If you follow me on facebook , I showed a glimpse of our Christmas tree.  I found some pink ornaments on clearance at the end of season last year.  I added those along with my blue and gold and loved the outcome. I took the tree down yesterday.  I love starting fresh and getting rid of the Christmas decor allowed me to see my house and what I want to accomplish next. We're winding down to the last few days of the year.  The year has gone by so quickly.  The blog has given me a way to capture projects done around the house, so I wanted to take some time to share some of my favorites with you. The biggest has got to be our master bedroom makeover .  We love the results and it's great we finally have a room that we can enjoy

Friday Five

Image
Happy Friday!  So excited that I can call today my final day of work.  I'll be enjoying a week off with my kids next week. I wanted to share some things that caught my eye this week. 1) The One Room Challenge ended last week and I loved looking through all the participants' rooms.  One room I especially loved was from Evolution of Style .  She complted her daughter's room and I love it. 2) I'm not hosting this year for Thanksgiving but I love this setup from Tomkat Studio .  There are a ton of printables to help you get this look. 3) Designer Trapped in a Lawyer's Body created this beautiful utility box cover.  I think it's a brilliant solution for those unsightly boxes out front. 4) I love Beth's style from Seersucker + Saddles .  She's does casual but together really well.  She's got me wanting a pair of these Sperry rain boots bad. 5) Neither my company nor my husband's does a fancy Christmas party

DIY Christmas Wreaths

Image
Looks like we have just over five weeks until Christmas!  All the stores are decorating and trying to get us in the spirit.  I went in for a few fall pieces last week and was directed to very few leftovers to choose from.  I do think I will put up our Christmas tree next weekend.  I usually wait until after Christmas before all the madness begins. My husband has mentioned we don't have a wreath on the front door, not even for fall.  I guess I am slacking this year.  Something just hasn't clicked for me and I haven't been in the decorating mood lately.  My intention is to DIY a Christmas wreath.  I searched online for a few ideas . I like this simple twig wreath . With some extra ornaments, I could surely make this ornament wreath .  I love the blue and silver color combo. I love this textured burlap wreath .  I would have to choose another color for the red since our front door is already red. Here's another burlap wreath .  It looks

Choosing the Right Light

Image
Hey!  Happy Hump Day! One of the things for me that can make or break a room is the light choice.  I love a statement chandelier in a foyer or a whimsical pendant in a girl's room.   I was excited when Parrot Uncle invited me to put together a space using one of their lights.  Parrot Uncle is an online lighting retailer with lighting choices from contemporary and modern to Vintage Home Decor Pendant Lights .  With their large selection, you are able to choose the best style to suit your home. Whether you're searching for your living room or bathroom, you're sure to find something you like.  There is also a $1.99 page where you can score some great bulbs and portable lamps for cheap!  Their goal is to provide quality lighting while giving you superior customer service. I chose to create an entryway showcasing one of their fabulous Geometric Wooden Pendant Lights.  This is most likely the space that your guests will see first and this light is a showstopper . cons

Mad For Plaid

Image
Hey peeps.  Fall is finally here and it feels nice to walk outside now without immediately soaking through my clothes.  I love this time of year because the temps are going down and we seem to spend more time outside.  I don't like however the shorter days. I've noticed recently is all the fall catalogs that plaid is everywhere.  I don't typically like plaid but I have spotted a few things that I could possibly add to my decor. 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 Are you liking the plaid this season?   You're reading Mad For Plaid by Andrea, originally posted on Decorating Cents .  If you've enjoyed this post, be sure to follow Andrea on Facebook , Pinterest , Bloglovin , and Hometalk .

Ready For A Backyard Barbecue

Image
Summer is the time to enjoy the great outdoors.  When we moved into our home, I was looking forward to having dinners on the patio with our kids and having friends over for backyard barbecues.  I see spaces like these and long for gatherings outside.  Just having friends over and doing what my hubby loves to do, throw down on the grill!  My hopes are to one day install a pergola to create a little oasis in the backyard.  They just seem to add an elegance to the patio and create a covering to protect you and guests from the summer heat. Who wouldn't want a space like this?  I love the lanterns and table. source source This space screams backyard party.  I like the two seating areas and the wooden deck is beautiful. source We've already got a patio set but I would like to add a dining table.  It would be nice to have it for a separate seating area.  Here's our patio from last year.  The rug didn't hold up well and I never replaced it so it'

Back To School: Locker Accessories

Image
Well, we are back in school mode this week.  My daughter went back on Monday.  She had been looking forward to this day all summer.  She's more of a social butterfly and likes to be around her friends.  During our school supply shopping, I noticed all the cute locker items.  We won't be needing those for a while since she's only in second grade.   I thought it would be fun to put together things I would have in my locker.  There are so many more things to choose from than when I was in school.  I would want the inside of my locker to be bright and colorful and be a moment of peace, and checking my hair , before heading to the next class. wallpaper / clip magnets / mesh shelf / storage cup / chandelier / mirror / magnets / dry erase board What would be in your locker?   You're reading Back to School: Locker Accessories by Andrea, originally posted on Decorating Cents .  If you've enjoyed this post, be sure to follow Andrea on Facebook , Pint

DIY Wooden Arrow

Image
My son's nursery is slowly changing.  I guess I shouldn't even call it a nursery anymore since he's two.  I don't really see him as a baby now since he's doing so many things on his own and talking non-stop.  We've removed the front rail from his crib and he gets in and out of bed like a big boy .  It kind of makes me sad to know he's the last baby we'll have. I want to start making changes to his room.  I still love the gray and orange palette.  I've been drawn to the rustic, industrial look and I think his room is the perfect space to add those elements.  The first project to begin this look is a wooden arrow. I started with a leftover poplar board from the board and batten project and a couple of large paint sticks. Using my miter box, I cut a triangle from the poplar board.  This will be the arrow point.  I cut two pieces from one of the paint sticks for the rear of the arrow.  I used another paint stick for the body.  I di
