Kitchen Cabinets Revealed
After a long weekend and several week nights of painting, I can finally say the kitchen cabinets are done. Say hello to our new kitchen.
The stools seem to disappear into the island. Not sure if I want to leave them this way or find some new ones. I could try to recover the seats and paint the legs.
I removed the dark striped valance and it already brightened the kitchen by allowing more light in. I hope to find some fabric soon to make another window treatment. I was thinking about a roman shade. It wouldn't bother me to leave the window bare either.
It thought going to darker cabinets would make the room feel dark but I think it actually adds another dimension.
I found this rug at Target. It added more blue and I loved the whimsical play on chevron.
So glad I went with stainless steel pulls instead of keeping the old nickel knobs. They pop off the brown and have a presence on the doors and drawers.
They also coordinate with the stainless appliances and canisters on the counter. The dark cabinets now pull the brown from the back splash we installed.
Here's a reminder of where we started.

Ahhh. Now I can relax and enjoy our new kitchen. I thought this day would never come.

Oh, I forgot... I'm following you!!
ReplyDeleteLove the colours!!! Your kitchen is gorgious!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea! I just found your blog via Sunday Showcase, and I LOVE IT! Great projects. The kitchen looks fabulous! I'm your newest follower :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks amazing! Wow, your hard work payed off and I love that you didn't paint the cabinets white. Did you just paint them or did you use a kit? Was your hubby on board with painting the oak because my husband is against any painting of any wood in this house. Need some help on that one :)
ReplyDeleteWhat if you painted the chairs white and added some color with recovering the seats, just a thought. The chairs would pop for sure.
Awesome job Andrea!
FABULOUS!!! You guys did a great job!!! I like your bar stools. What about just covering the cushions with a pop of color using fabric or oilcloth?
ReplyDeleteThat is gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower from the Monday Mingle hop. Hope you can stop by mamasmusingsblog.blogspot.com
Love the cabinets. I'm going to be painting the exact cabinets really soon. Except I'm going white. I especially love the hardware!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to ask what brand and color of paint did you use on your cabinets? do you have tutorial on how you did them?
ReplyDeleteHi! I'm your newest follower and co-host of this month's blog hop. Thanks so much for joining in on the fun :) I'm looking forward to getting you know you better!
ReplyDeleteWowzers!! What a transformation. I LOVE your backsplash.
Love it!! You did an excellent job!
ReplyDeleteWe have been remodeling our kitchen for a year now and are still not done! lol
I love your great new transformation, it's amazing! Now your cabinets look elegant, I love wood color kitchens, although I admire the white ones too. We had an old kitchen in white before, than two years ago we re-modeled it totally TO WOOD CABINETS and we're so happy. I have Roman shades now, Hunter Douglas ones and it's enough for lighting and sunshine in a kitchen and foe easy cleaning. I just posted something of my kitchen too at Met. Monday. Enjoy your week.

ReplyDeleteYour kitchen turned out great. I love how the backsplash pops. After seeing sooooo many white kitchens (and I do like white) yours is a welcome change. I like the hardware too. Great job and I hope you enjoy it!

Amazing! Lucky !!!
ReplyDeleteWOW all your hard work paid off, it looks amazing! I just love it. I think if you just recovered the tops of the stools in a color like your gorgeous throw rug you may not even have to paint the legs, it will give it the pop it needs. You should be proud of all your hard work, I'll be featuring it next week

Oh, it's so pretty! The painted cabinets turned out great - I love the dark warm color. Saw the blue toned rug and you mentioned that you wanted to get a little blue into the room - one of the poster suggested recovering just the seats of your stools with a coordinating blue color and I think that would look great against the warmth of the brown island. I like the window without the valence because it does let in so much natural light -- but perhaps if you moved the rod up closer to the ceiling you could add some sort of valence or treatment that would also have the blue color in that you like??? That would also add height to the area above the window to sort of balance out the "weight" of the cabinets on either side and add a little focal interest and pop of color.
ReplyDeleteIt turned out fabulous!
ReplyDelete:)

Very nice job - a big transformation that I'm sure you will enjoy for years to come.

So glad to see this! My husband and I are going back and forth about taking our medium-wood cabinets much darker since I installed that EXACT SAME back splash a few months ago :) We also have SS appliances and really light counters so this gives me a better idea of how it will look if we go ahead!
ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Your kitchen looks beautiful! I love the backsplash! Thanks for sharing with us this week!

ReplyDeleteI LOVED these pictures. I am redoing my kitchen cabinets in rocklin ca and I am so glad I found these pictures before I met with my designer. I will have to show him this site, because I loved this. Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteHi, we are trying to decide whether to go off-white or dark like yours. How did you decide? I figure the off-white should be timeless.
ReplyDeleteLove it, not just update that ceiling light. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of this is that you can turn them every which way to get them spray painted.

Great blog!! I will be coming here more often for sure!!
ReplyDeleteAdorable cabinets and arrangements of kitchen pieces.
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty transformation! Thanks for linking up :)
ReplyDeleteWOah!!! i am blown away by your transformation!!!! Looks like a totally new kitchen!! Great job! I know all too well how hard painting cabinetry can be, but what a fabulous pay off in the end!
ReplyDeleteYou did a beautiful job! We're starting our Rustoleum Cabinet Transformation project this weekend. I'm excited but very nervous. The video makes it look so easy. We don't have a lot of space and we have dogs/kids so to get all the different drying times what'd you have to do to keep them safe from air/debris? Also, what color did you choose-- We got Espresso and I'm thinking yours looks the same, or close. And, did you use a small or large kit?
ReplyDeleteWould you mind telling me the size of your island? I am looking at putting one in and need some ideas of sizes. I want to have an overhang for stools just like yours! Love your transformation!!! My kitchen is very similar to your "before" - love the inspiration!!!
ReplyDeleteWow, the changes you made in the kitchen are amazing. Such a change from the before!
ReplyDeleteWow! That looks great! I have been looking at the kitchen transformation product. I'm going to have to watch the video link too. Thank you for sharing
ReplyDeleteLove your transformation! The hubby and I are starting the same process very soon using the Rustoleum Cabinet Kit as well. I'm wondering what color you used, is it the Espresso? That is the one wee are leaning towards. Also, what size kit did you use and how many boxes did you end up having to buy? I want to make sure we buy enough to cover all the cabinets and the inside of the cabinet doors. and one last question, did you have any difficulties with the top coat step? I'm reading a lot of mixed reviews and wondering if it would just be easiest to buy a different top coat to use all together. Any feedback using this kit would be great! Thanks in advance!
ReplyDeleteJust finished my bathroom cabinets with this in the same color! It's lovely and it's super simple, just time consuming as you said. Rona had samples and I was going to go with espresso but after seeing it is a black/red color compared to the dark brown chocolate I went with chocolate and it's perfect. Your blog was very helpful and convinced me to do it! Really durable stuff too! Thanks!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I'm wondering what some readers at Remodelaholic are wondering: how has this Rustoleum product held up & do you have kids helping with wear & tear? My cupboards are in great need of a change & I'd love to know your review almost 2 years later.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a followup post is in order!
DeleteWe are debating between the espresso and chocolate. Your kitchen turned out awesome, what color did you choose?
ReplyDeleteHi Andrea! Lorene from Remodelaholic here. I just emailed you, but my messages often get caught in spam filters, so I thought I'd leave you a comment as well. Email me when you can, please! hello@remodelaholic.com Thanks!
ReplyDeleteGood article!
ReplyDeleteI have white kitchen cabinets but I fell in love with these chocolate brown kitchen cabinets as they look simply stunning
ReplyDeleteDark storage cabinets in the kitchen are really not for everyone - but I think you're really blessed to have a lot of natural light in this area of the house that you don't have too much of an issue with it! And that rug matching your backsplash! That's an excellent find too!
ReplyDeleteWow beautiful, you have really set out the fundamental concepts of good kitchen style.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant site, Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteThis kitchen is absolutely fabulous!! Love everything about it,.
