Tiny Houses

Image
A few months back my husband made a comment about down sizing.  Huh?  What?  It's funny he said this because I'm always joking about packing up and moving into a bigger house.  You can imagine the confused look on my face when he said this though.  Sure, we did buy a house a little larger than we really needed but we figured we could grow into it.  At the time we purchased it, we only had one kid but knew we were planning on having one more.  Our house is fairly big and on a day to day basis, we don't use every square inch of our house.  Sometimes it is frustrating cleaning four toilets knowing they hadn't even been used over the past week.  He mentioned downsizing because he figures it would be easier to maintain and our expenses would decrease.  Yeah I get it but not going to happen.  We have come to call this place home. After this conversation, I thought about an episode of HGTV Star where they had to design and decorate an 86 sq ft house.  In this house they

Get The Look: Modern Traditional Living Room

Image
I love seeing pretty spaces and like most people, I want to know where the pieces in the room come from.  I love the grays and yellows in this living room.  The room is modern but still very classic.  It's a space I wouldn't mind kicking my feet up in.   source I've found some affordable decor items you could use to re-create this room. Easy DIY Clipboard

Image
I've been wanting to do this project for a while but never got around to it.  I can't believe it took me so long because it's super easy.  This is a fun and colorful clipboard that you can customize to any style with scrapbook paper. I picked up a clipboard from the Dollar Tree.  I also used:  scrapbook paper mod podge foam brush scissors I first traced the outside of the clipboard and cut it out.  I traced on the back of the paper so my pencil line wouldn't be seen on the pretty side of the paper.  I cut it out a tiny bit smaller than the actual shape of the clipboard to it wouldn't hang over the edge.  I also had to cut out space for the metal clip at the top. I then brushed on a layer of mod podge on the clipboard.  I carefully placed my scrapbook paper on the clipboard and smoothed out any bubbles in the paper.  I wanted the final product to be smooth and bumpless.  Next, I brushed a layer of mod podge on top of the paper.  This lay

Modern Leather Sofas

Image
I used to not like leather sofas, a lot.  They stick to your legs and I could always see myself puncturing the upholstery.  Well, leather sofas have some a long way.  I especially like those with modern lines and straight lines and legs.  I've also learned that leather is durable, can last forever, and cleans easily.  I prefer brown and gray leather sofas opposed to black ones but that's me. 1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 Here are some examples of spaces using modern leather sofas.   source   source   source source What's your take on leather sofas?  Love them or leave them?   You're reading Modern Leather Sofas by Andrea, originally posted on Decorating Cents .  If you've enjoyed this post, be sure to follow Andrea on Facebook , Pinterest , Bloglovin , and Hometalk .

Fun Play Room

Image
I love looking at play rooms.  I tell my husband all the time how we need one.  Of course he doesn't agree.  I just think it would be nice to have a dedicated space for all the toys.  Here's a fun and colorful play room for the kiddies.   I've chosen bright pieces that provide function, like the table and chairs for art activities or puzzles and the wardrobe for storage (all from Ikea ).  The striped tent from Land of Nod provides an area for the kiddies to play hide and seek or just to crawl in and take a break.  The crate and striped basket allow small toys to be gathered and stored while still looking nice in the room.  I love the bean bag chair from Bean Bag Boss .  It's a good spot to relax and read a book. rug / bean bag chair /  easel / wardrobe / blue table   / blue chairs / tent / alphabet decal /  crate / storage basket *This is a sponsored post but the views and opinions expressed are my own.   You're reading Fun Play Room by An

Board and Batten in the Back Entry

Image
The back entry from the garage has been a sore spot for me for the last year.  The kids' back packs always ended up here.  That's fine but they were always hanging on the closet door knobs.  I knew at some point I would have to do something about it.  The door knobs would only take so much.  I told my husband about my plan and he was on board.   Using the same technique as the front entry board and batten , I created this in the back entry.  It was fairly simple since I knew what to expect from the last time around. Here's where things started on Friday night.  And now...   I knew I wanted hooks here.  That was the main goal of adding the molding.  I wanted the hooks to be modern and simple.  I searched several places but ended up with these sleek nickel hooks from Ikea.  They were small and exactly what I needed.  I didn't want anything too big and stick out too far from the wall since this was a hallway.  The open door to the right is

Friday Five

Image
Happy Friday ya'll!! With my little man running free, it's been hard to get into the groove of home projects.  Just when I put him down for a nap, he awakens.  He doesn't stay asleep long enough to get anything done.   1) This rug has me inspired to do a little painting this weekend. source 2) My baby girl starts up dance again which means getting up on Saturday mornings.  I love seeing her dance.   source 3) My daughter is spending more time in her room drawing lately and I think it's time for a big girl desk.  I'm thinking about heading to Ikea to look at theirs.  They have lots of affordable options. source 4) If you follow me on facebook , you may have seen we've added a new piece of furniture to our office.  It will come in handy when we have guests staying over. 5) I've been following Parade Craze and I love their drool worthy pictures.  Such inspiration!  I love seeing them in my newsfeed. Have a great

Gray and Yellow Bedroom

Image
I think gray is one of those colors that looks good with any color paired with it.  Gray and yellow is a popular color combo.  Since our master bedroom isn't done yet, I decided to put together a bedroom with these two colors. duvet / headboard / trellis pillow / rug / bench / arm chair / geometric pillow / side table / dresser / chandelier / mirror / vase /  decorative box My room started with this Cookes beautiful tufted headboard .  I'm aiming for more grays in our home and this one caught my eye. I love the classic hotel bedding from Target.  It's simple and can be styled up easily. The rug was next.  I loved the graphic pattern and the colors were perfect together. I added more accessories to bring more pops of yellow in the room.  Putting this bedroom together makes me realize how much I want my master bedroom to be finished. *This is a sponsored post but the views and opinions expressed are my own.      You'

Organizing The Kitchen

Image
For many families, the kitchen is the room of the house where they spend the most time.   Whether it is eating breakfast and getting lunches ready or making dinner and talking about each other’s day, the kitchen is often a common gathering spot. Just as it’s often full of people, it can also be one of the most cluttered places in a home.   From pots and pans to dishes and silverware, it always seems like there isn’t enough room in the kitchen. Organizing your kitchen can help it act as a focal point of your home by freeing up space for everyone and everything in it.   Check out these easy organization tips for your kitchen to keep it clean and spacious: Wrap dispensers and sandwich baggies There never is enough drawer or cabinet space in a kitchen, and there is an easy way to store things like tin foil, plastic wrap, sandwich bags and wax paper.   Tape magnets to the bottoms of the boxes and put them against the side of your refrigerator.   This way, they are
