Decorating Cents

I feel like I'm in the home stretch with my daughter's room makeover.  There are always a few small things I want to get done before I reveal them.  Ever since the room was painted gray, she's been loving it so I can take my time for all she cares.  Painting over the green made the room feel so much more calm and larger. I knew from the start I wanted to do another gallery wall in her room.  I got rid of the old prints because she was over the whole butterfly thing and wanted to tone down the colors to just a few.  We've decided to stick with pinks, blues, white, and gold.  This print from Minted is the star of the wall.  I loved this print the moment I saw it.  It had all the colors we were going for and it had a playful effect with the watercolors. The gray accent wall has been painted.  You can see that here , when I posted about the mounted TV.  We initially chose to go with the same color as our office, Behr Grayve Yard.  I bought a quart and got to work.  I've experienced that paint goes on lighter and dries darker.  As I was painting, I was desperately hoping it would dry much darker but it never did.  The office has all four walls painted and the lighting in the office looks different than the loft area.  I think these two differences made the color appear lighter in the loft.  So we made a decision to go darker.  I looked through my paint swatches and went with Behr Intellectual.  It's a really dark gray and almost looks black in person. We had this expansive wall to the left going up the stairway when you walk into our home.  I had gone back and forth between putting up some art or doing a gallery wall.  Well, I was in my favorite store this weekend, Target if you didn't know, and came across some large frames on clearance.  I put four in the cart and knew exactly where they were going.  Time for another photo gallery. I had some family photos put away that never made it into frames.  I pulled them out and put them in my new frames.  Next was deciding how they were going on the wall.  I traced a frame onto plastic bags, I didn't have any newspaper on hand, cut out my templates, and taped them on the wall to get my placement.  After measuring, adjusting, and measuring again, I got to nailing.    Here's looking overhead from the loft.   Looks so much better now that something is filling that wall.   Now I can see my family's beautiful...

Gallery walls seem to be popping up all over the place.  I like the simpleness and ease of creating art on the wall with your photos or artwork. Being Brook has a nice display in her playroom. From Gardners 2 Bergers has a gorgeous wall full of DIY art. I love the space A Soft Place to Land created for her child's art.  Check out the chalk board! Simcoe Street added one to her kitchen. This wall display is expansive.  It was put together by Twenty Something .  It took some time and planning but it was well worth it. I love the wall The Creative Imperative did in her son's room.  I especially love the personalized subway art. Just a Touch of Gray transformed a wall in her hallway. It's Great to Be Home created a collection in her den. Have you tried a gallery wall?  Any tips for those wanting to try one? 

So after the painting, nailing, and adjusting of pictures, I'm done with my gallery wall.  Well finished for now.  I'll add more pictures in the future but at the moment I'm satisfied.  Who knows, things could be totally different tomorrow.  I tend to walk by things and change them on impulse.
