Friday Five

Image
1) We attended my sister in law's wedding this past weekend and I was the lucky one with this guy on my arm. 2) The new West Elm catalog came...nuff said. 3) I've had the whole week off from cooking.  Didn't have to turn on this thing once. 4) I've got the go ahead from hubby to add some finishing touches to a few rooms.  Like this one.   5) It's Good Friday! Have a happy weekend everyone.  Until next week.

Easter Printable

Image
We were sitting down at dinner one night and the subject of Easter came up.  We had never discussed Easter with our daughter and the reason we celebrate this day.  We did the Jesus was born on Christmas discussion so now's a good time to explain this.  This conversation led me to write down some words that reminded me of Jesus and his death and resurrection. I thought I would share.   Enjoy!

Paint Chip Easter Garland

Image
What do you do with a stack of paint chips and a craft hungry 4 year old?  Make something of course.  This kid keeps my brain moving trying to come up with stuff for her to do. This project was easy to do and my daughter enjoyed doing it.  I printed an egg shape and she traced it onto the back of the paint chips. This prevented any pencil lines on the front of your finished egss.  She cut out the eggs and taped them to a piece of ribbon.   It was hanging in the kitchen but she thinks it's perfect right on the mantle.   Sharing with My Uncommon Slice of Suburbia * Not Just a Housewife * A Bowl Full of Lemons * Craf ty Confessions *  Domestically Speaking * Homework * Lolly Jane * New Nostalgia * Southern Lovely * Clean a nd Scentsible * Ginger Snap Crafts * House of Hepworths *

I wanted to start a weekly recap of things that have caught my eye, made me happy, or going on in my world throughout the week. 1) To sta rt things off, I was drooling over the wood shim mir ror that Allison over at House of Hepworths made .   It's huge at over 4 feet and beautiful.  This one is definitely going on my to do list. 2) I am dying to try these peanut butter balls from One Artsy Mama.  S omething about p eanut bu tter and chocola te together.  A true fan over here! 3) Made a trip to Ikea and finally picked up one of these bowls .  I 've walked by the display so many times only to p ick one up and put i t back 4) Tem peratures will make it into the low 7 0's thi s week end .  I can see spring on the horizon. 5) I'll be working on more nursery stuff.  Counting down the weeks until we meet the little guy. What you got going on th is weekend?  A nything exciting?

Stained Wood Crates

Image
The nursery is coming along great but I still wasn't sure about storage.  I showed you several ideas and was so certain I would end up choosing baskets.  Guess again. Hubby and I were in Home Depot and he mentioned the wooden crates again.  We asked around to see where they would be.  The associate directed us to the store entry and there they were.  The good part, they were marked down to $5.00 a piece.   Originally I was thinking of painting them orange but then thought that maybe I already had enough orange in the room.  I decided to just stain them.  That way if I was to change the room's colors later on, I wouldn't have to re-paint them. I gave them a good sand to get rid of the rough spots and edges .  I applied a coat of Minwax Dark Walnut stain and let the crates dry.  They had to sit out in the garage for a while.  The smell of stain is intoxicating.  After they were dry, I brought them upstairs. ...

Color Block Curtains

Image
From the beginning, I wanted to use white curtains in the nursery.  To me, white curtains are clean and just keep the room looking fresh.  But I had the urge to add more color to them.   I had been searching for a cool fabric to make curtains but I wasn't ready to fork out big bucks for it.  I also thought about using ribbon to add a border around the inside edges like this but I ended up using the ribbon on the light.   source Another ribbon trim idea was this one.  It reminds me of the curtains I did in my daughter's room but on the bottom instead of the top. source Then it hit me, I can make a big colorful impact with orange fabric!  Since I didn't remember seeing any plain orange fabric in the fabric stores, the next best thing was a sheet.  Yes, a bed sheet.  I went into Walmart and bought a twin flat sheet for $4 and change.  A twin sheet is 66 inches wide by 96 inches long.  That's a lot o...

Easy Giraffe Art

Image
Here's some easy art for the nursery.  I wanted some inexpensive art to put on the shelf above the changing table .  This project took nothing more than a frame and scrapbook paper.  I've had this pinned and decided to give it a try. I searched for giraffe heads on google and printed it out l arge enough to f ill my frame.  I cut it out, traced it onto scrapbook paper, and glued it to white paper .  I had an extra frame laying around and popped it in. Super chea p and super easy.
