Coffered Ceilings

Image
When walking through model homes, I always look for architectural details.  One that especially gets my attention are coffered ceilings.  Something about them makes the room feel so much grander and finished.  I would love to have them in our dining room but our downstairs is open with no walls to separate the dining room from the rest of the space.   source source source We've even kicked around the idea of adding them in the master bedroom since we have a trey ceiling. source  This one is more board and batten but I think would be fairly easy to do. source source Do you love coffered ceilings too?   You're reading Coffered Ceilings by Andrea, originally posted on Decorating Cents .  If you've enjoyed this post, be sure to follow Andrea on Facebook , Pinterest , Bloglovin , and Hometalk .

Friday Five

Image
Well, it's the last Friday in June.  It seems like this summer is just passing us by.  We're headed out of town again this weekend so I don't see any projects going down.  I've tried to do a few things here and there to keep me from totally going stir crazy.  I have to be doing something all the time.  Ask my husband.  I tend to be a busy body. 1) With Target's outdoor clearance happening right now, I was able to get this outdoor furniture set for cheap.  $212 to be exact.  That's cheaper than the the regular price of the loveseat alone.  The pieces in this set were marked down 50% with the exception of the table.  It was marked down 70%.  I used the Cartwheel deal that gave me an additional 10% and then 5% with my Redcard.  I stopped in yesterday to grab a few pillows and there wasn't much left so hurry in if you want to get anything. 2) I absolutely love this black and white boys room .  I usually love col...

DIY Decorative Box

Image
I was browsing through Homegoods a couple weeks ago and came upon the aisle with decorative boxes.  I stuck a few in my cart and kept moving.  Before heading to checkout, I decided to put them back.  I liked the pattern of the boxes but wasn't that in love with the color.  I knew I could make my own.   I always keep shoe boxes because I never know when they'll come in handy.  I pulled out a small one and some scrapbook paper.  These would be perfect to make my own box.   I simply cut and wrapped the scrapbook paper around the box like I was wrapping a present.  I adhered the paper to the box with mod podge.     After my paper was on, I gave the whole outside a coat of mod podge to seal it and give it a nice sheen.   I wasn't sure exactly where my box was going initially but it ended up on the expedit in the entry hall.  It's the perfect perch for my DIY sphere .   Even though I've had t...

Kids Art Caddy

Image
I originally shared this project on Its Overflowing , but I wanted to make sure you guys didn't miss it. My daughter loves to draw and craft.  However, her craft supplies are everywhere.  She's got markers and crayons downstairs and another stash upstairs in her room.  She also needs these items for homework sometimes.  It was always a pain trying to keep up with where everything was.  I decided it was time to change that.  She needed one spot where she could keep all her things.   I went to the dollar store to see what items they had that I could use.  I came out with a small bucket and this chalkboard. I wanted to label the bucket.  I cut the chalkboard into a small rectangle so I could attach it to the front.  It was cardboard so it was very easy to cut with scissors.  I was originally going to paint a square on the front of the bucket with chalkboard paint but this was way easier.   I attached it to the fron...

Beach Living

Image
We are visiting some friends in Charleston this weekend and I instantly started thinking about the beach.  When I think about the beach, I think about cool and calming blues with pops of color.  I decided to put together a board of a modern but beachy living room. sofa / table / basket / mirrors / rug / lamp / yellow pillow / blue pillow / coral pillow / console table / art / vase / chair / palm tree / woven pouf / garden stool / white tray /   You're reading Beach Living by Andrea, originally posted on Decorating Cents .  If you've enjoyed this post, be sure to follow Andrea on Facebook , Pinterest , Bloglovin , and Hometalk . A Designer's Home: Sabrina Soto

Image
One of my favorite designers on HGTV is Sabrina Soto.  She is host of The High/Low Project.  On her show she designs a room for a family on the high end.  She then re-creates it on the low end using DIY techniques and bargain shopping.  I always love that she can make the low end room look just like the high end.  In most cases, the homeowners like the lower costing version better.  She is also a style expert for Target.  You often see her cruising around Target in her shows for affordable, trendy pieces to use in her designs. Sabrina Soto lives in a 1200 sq ft penthouse apartment in New York City.  She mixed modern pieces with those that are vintage and antique.  She also mixes more high end pieces with DIY solutions.  I love the pops of color throughout. Potted Fiddle Leaf Fig

Image
It's been a few months since I bought a Fiddle Leaf Fig tree from Ikea.  It sat in its plastic pot for almost four months.  Yep, four months.  I would go into the store looking for a nice colorful basket to sit it in but never came out with anything I really liked.  It finally hit me when I was going through some things in the garage.  I could just paint a pot I already had. I started with this chipped up old pot. I had some blue spray paint in the closet I could use to freshen it up a bit.  The color was Valspar Tropical Oasis.  Before painting, I taped off the white stripe in the middle.  I liked the pattern of it.   After a few coats of spray paint, it was ready to go.  I took the tree out of the cheap plastic black pot it came in and re-planted it into my new one.   Just another touch of blue in the family room.  Ignore the cable cord and toy balls in the candle holder on the mantle.   I got th...

More Tolix Style Bar Stools

Image
Last month, I shared my new kitchen bar stools with you.  I love seeing them in other kitchens and wanted to share a few with you. I love this set of red stools .  They give this open kitchen and dining room a big pop of color.   Check out this colorful set .  The kitchen is all white so the stools are a cheerful, fun element to the room. Here's another set of red .  The rest of this kitchen is beautiful too.  It's white with little snippets of color here and there. This kitchen uses silver metal similar to the ones I chose.  I'm digging the dark island with the lighter exterior cabinets.   I love this kitchen too.  She used the silver stools as well.  Gotta love the vaulted ceilings and two toned cabinets. Another set of silver .  So crisp and clean with all the white cabinets and silver accents throughout. These yellow ones are perfect against this dark island. Even though I l...
