Decorating Cents

This project has been on my list for a while and I can finally check it off.  We had plain white curtains from Ikea hanging in our master bedroom.  I loved the simpleness of them but I wanted to jazz them up a bit. I went back and forth between trimming the curtains down the sides or adding fabric on the bottom like I did in the nursery .  The trimmed idea won.  I started late Friday night.  I wasn't sure how much I would get done but at least I had gotten a start.  We have four windows in the room which means a total of eight panels to trim!  Was I crazy for wanting to do this to so many panels?  After figuring out the first one, I got on a roll and didn't want to stop.  I had gotten five panels done when I noticed it was 1:00 AM.  Time to turn in and start again in the morning. From the beginning, I wanted to use white curtains in the nursery.  To me, white curtains are clean and just keep the room looking fresh.  But I had the urge to add more color to them.   I had been searching for a cool fabric to make curtains but I wasn't ready to fork out big bucks for it.  I also thought about using ribbon to add a border around the inside edges like this but I ended up using the ribbon on the light.   source Another ribbon trim idea was this one.  It reminds me of the curtains I did in my daughter's room but on the bottom instead of the top. source Then it hit me, I can make a big colorful impact with orange fabric!  Since I didn't remember seeing any plain orange fabric in the fabric stores, the next best thing was a sheet.  Yes, a bed sheet.  I went into Walmart and bought a twin flat sheet for $4 and change.  A twin sheet is 66 inches wide by 96 inches long.  That's a lot o...

Since the beginning of the office project, I have wanted bold patterns and colors.  The grey wall is the perfect background to add pops of bright colors so it doesn't feel too dark.  This office space is for both of us so we are having to compromise on some things.  The things I like, he doesn't and vice versa.  We've been bouncing ideas off each other until the both of us agree it's a design element we can both live with. In my mood board for this room, I used black and white striped curtains.   I wasn't sure how he felt about them.  I knew he wanted a black and white graphic print on the curtains after seeing him look at several at Ikea.  We could never find the right one.  We found a large piece of art at Ikea that has so many colors we could use.  We decided to use blue as t he accent color for the room .  I changed the mood board to include blue and white stripe curtains instead.  I mentioned it to him last week...

Now that I removed the dark valance from the kitchen window I've been debating what kind of window treatment I should put up. Got the curtains up to match the ones in the dining room.  Even though this room is no where near finished, somehow the curtains make it look more so. Still empty but hoping to get a sofa soon.
