Another Placemat Pillow

Image
It's Friday.  It's Friday.  The end of the week and the last day.  At least for the work week anyway. You may remember I bought three placemats from Target.  Two of them I stuffed here and they easily became pillows for the master.  The third pillow wasn't double sided.  It was only one layer so I couldn't just stuff it. Since it was only one layer, I needed another fabric to become the back.  I had some extra fabric leftover from an Ikea curtain that I could use.  It was about 54 inches wide and each side was finished.  This was perfect for an envelope closure.  I didn't have any extra zippers laying around so that wasn't an option.  I wanted to use what I had. The placemat was 14 x 19 and wasn't quite big enough for my 12 x 20 pillow insert.  Using a seam ripper, I opened up all the seams to give me the biggest surface area possible. Since my pillow insert was 12 x 20, I cut my fabric ...

DIY Placemat Pillow

Image
I've been racking my brain trying to figure out what pillow formation I want to use on our bed in the master.  I've been searching online for fabrics and even Etsy for pillow covers.  I showed you a while ago the pillow cover I liked at West Elm but it sold out before I could get my hand on it. Well last week I was walking though Target.  On a last minute whim, I walked through the kitchen linens.  They had a great assortment of cloth napkins and tablecloths.  I came across a few I liked and grabbed them up. I loved the patterns on these and the two fabrics coordinate perfectly.  I knew throw pillows were in order. To make them I grabbed my seam ripper and a few old toss pillows I had stuffed in a closet and wasn't using anymore.  I started by using the seam ripper to open a side seam.  I made the hole just big enough to get my hand in. I opened an old pillow and removed the stuffing.  I fluffed it up some and stu...

Napkin Pillow Covers

Image
I've been on the search for new pillow covers to refresh the family room.  I showed you some pillows last week and I've saved some on Etsy.  None of them I've pulled the trigger on.  Last week I made a run in Target and came across these clearance napkins.  There are four in a pack and are 20 inches squared.  I knew I could make pillow covers from them.  They were the color I was looking for and the pattern was cool too.  They were also on clearance.     I now like having pillow covers that are removable and can be washed, especially with kids.  I could have made envelope covers but zippers are more my thing now.  With an envelope closure, you can only use one side of the pillow.  A zippered closure allows for use of both sides.  Using this tutorial for zippered pillow covers, I made two new pillow covers for the family room.  Instead of buying new zippers, I took them off old pillow covers I was no longer...

New H&M Pillow Covers

Image
Last week I ordered several new pillow covers from H&M Home.  They are for our loft that we are going to be working on soon.  I just recently discovered that H&M carries a home line.  I was pretty shocked.  I have a few pieces from their clothing line and the quality is ok.  You get what you pay for. There is a pretty decent selection of covers.  They have so many styles and colors to choose from and the prices can't be beat.  Most are cheaper than it costs to make one of your own.  I went with graphic prints and bold colors.  Our loft is going to be a family space so I wanted to bring in fun colors.  Bright colors will make for better moods...hopefully.  The covers have hidden zippers on the bottom, which I love.  With the kids around, it's going to be easy to take them off and wash them.  I was a little hesitant before ordering because you can't return items to the store, only by mail, and you have to pay ...

New Family Room Rug

Image
It was time to make some changes in the family room.  Originally the accent colors in the room were blue and red.  The old rug was perfect as it combined those colors plus more so I could always change the accent colors if I felt.  That was my intention anyway.  I liked the old rug but the colors in it weren't my favorite anymore.  I wanted to start removing some of the red in the room.  I mentioned this to hubby and he was on board, as long as I could get rid of the old rug.  Not a problem! I begin searching for rugs that I liked.  I knew I wanted a graphic print in a neutral color.  I wanted to be able to switch up art or pillows without worrying about them clashing with the rug.  This trellis one from Target kept popping up.  If you remember a few months back I posted this picture on Facebook of the blue one.   I had bought it in 5x7 for the living rug but it was too small so it ended up going back.  They...

Greek Key Pillow

Image
The new chair in the family room was looking pretty lonely.  It didn't have a pillow friend to play with.  It was time to do something about it.  I thought about finding some fabric to make a pillow cover but then decided I didn't feel like doing it.  I started searching Etsy for a great print that I thought would mesh well with the other pillows.  This greek key pattern kept popping up.  I liked it so I went with it.  The hard part was choosing a color.  I saw blue and white, red and white, but ended up going with this brown and natural from this shop .  I love the pattern.    The square pattern was meant for this square chair.  Now my chair isn't so lonely.   Etsy had so many options to choose from.  I saw several that I want to order for the master bedroom.  Where do you shop for your pillows?  Ever consider Etsy?
