Friday Five

This week I wanted to share some of the lastest pins on my Pinterest boards. 1) This beautiful entryway caught my eye.  I like the neutral colors.  Makes me want to get on sprucing up mine. 2) How awesome is this washi tape wall .  If my daughter saw this she would so love it.   3) Since putting crates in the nursery, it's always fun to see how others have used them.  Here they are painted in bright colors and used to create this colorful bookcase . 4) I think we wall make excuses when it comes to working out.  I found it appropriate when I saw this .  It's been hard to get back in a workout routine since the baby's arrival.   5) The first day of school is almost here, and I saw these cute first day of school printables .   If you aren't already following, click over and follow me on Pinterest .

Pinterest Inspired Art

This pin has been on my project ideas board for a while.  I had bought some canvases some time ago but ended up returning them.  Not knowing when I would ever buy more canvases, I decided to create this project with some foam board I had in the closet.   I started by taping off my lines with painter's tape.  The tape I had was 1 inch but I cut the strips in half to make my lines thinner. Using blue and red craft paint, I randomly painted sections of my board.  After removing the tape, here's what it looked like.  I was surprised how easy the tape came off the foam board being that it's paper.  It was Elmer's board so maybe it made a difference but I've tried with dollar store boards before and the paper ripped.     I originally made these to go above the sofa in the living room, but changed my mind.  They were a little too bright for the space.  One of them ended up in the back hall coming in from ...

Faux Photo Canvas

It's time for another Pinterest challenge . I love these challenges because they push me to actually do something about all the pinning I do.  I've seen a lot of photo canvases like this and another using a large foam board and wanted to do one of my own.  My daughter didn't have a ton of self portraits in her room, so I started there.  I wanted to jeep this project pretty low cost, so instead of using canvases, I used foam board.  I cut my foam board to the size of my photos with an exacto knife.  Using black paint, I painted the edges of the foam board.  I applied the photos to the front of the board with spray adhesive.  Since I was using foam board, I thought using Mod Podge would make the board too wet and wrinkle up. This is one of my favorite pictures of her.  I can't get enough of that smile. I used a few photos from a few different stages in her four years.  Yes, my little girl is four now....

Dry Erase Menu Board

Image
Young House Love and Bower Power have issued a Pinterest Challenge Winter Edition .  Just the kick in the butt I needed to get some projects on my Project Ideas board done.   We needed a menu board for the kitchen.  Hubby is always asking what's for dinner.  I have it written on my notepad, but I guess it didn't do him any good there.  I pinned this a while back knowing I'd get back to it one day.  Well today is the day. Is started by printing a chevron background on regular printer paper from here .  Using Word and the font Britannic Bold, I typed a template with menu at the top and my day of the week letters down the side.  I stuck the chevron paper back in the printer and printed the template on top. Using white paper, I cut rectangles to write the menu items on and taped them down on top. Put it back in the frame and voila. Sharing with Hi Sugarplum * Young House Love * Bower Power * The Great Indo...

Using Pinterest To Grow Your Blog

Image
Are you a part of the Pinterest Addicts Club?  I think I'm getting closer.  I browse a few times a day and find myself getting sucked in for a good hour or so.  Hubby even knows when I'm on Pinterest on my phone because it dings every time I pin something. I love seeing what everyone is pinning and getting design inspiration, recipes, and craft ideas.  But remember, others are also getting ideas from you.  Every time you pin something you like, your followers and other members are watching.  I have gotten a lot of Pinterest followers by just pinning things I like.  I pin a majority of home decor and DIY projects.  Others that like home decor or DIY too follow my boards because we have the same style.  When you are pinning, label the pin by what is in the photo, not your emotions when you pin it.  I think this is important for one reason: the pin being found by someone else later.  When I do searches, in the search box I ty...

I Can Do It Too

Image
Today I received just the boost I needed to start on some projects.  Sherry over at Young House Love announced the Pinterest Challenge Fall Edition.     I had no idea where I would start since I've pinned so many things on my boards .  I decided to start with one that was easy and free.  How can you beat those two in the same sentence? I've started seeing these DIY scarves and have recently pinned several.  I knew I had some old shirts laying around that I didn't wear anymore.  The idea is to take an old shirt and remix it into a scarf.  Sweet!  Here are some of my inspiration pins. Looks easy enough right?  So let's get 'er done! Start with a t-shirt.   Cut the bottom hem off and also right under the arms. Cut the mid section into strips.   Pull the strips.  They will curl up on the edges.   I saved a piece of the bottom hem.  I wrapped it around one of the ends and se...

Fall Pinterest Finds

Image
I was hearing about this thing called Pinterest.  What?  How can I try it?  I soon learned upon going onto the site that you had to have an invite.  I sent several requests over a span of a few weeks and still nothing.  So I asked one of my fellow bloggers for an invite and she happily sent me one.  Thanks.  I can't get enough.  You ladies weren't kidding when you said it was addictive.  Everything I like, I've been pinning.  Before Pinterest I was saving pictures to my computer and if I wanted to find the picture again, I had to search through the website I found the picture on.  With Pinterest, I can pin a picture and the link is stored with it.  How neat is that? So here are some of my fall favorites while browsing. Who doesn't like a free printable?  These would be so great in a gallery wall or on a fall mantle.   Fall fashion?  Yes please. Not so normal pumpkins.  I like that they ...
