Bringing In Some Green

Image
I showed you a few weeks ago an inspiration board mixing blues and greens. I've decided green is the new accent color I want to bring into my home.  I just love how the two colors play off one another.  Since the loft is already in progress, I will add of touch of green here. Last week I showed you the gallery wall .  There were some wooden candlesticks on the TV console.  They were brown and they blended in so you could have missed them.  I wanted to pump up the color a bit so I purchased some green spray paint.   Now they pop off the console and are a good contrast against the gray wall.  The color is Krylon Ivy Leaf.  I found the storage baskets at Target.  They are good for holding games and controllers for the game system.   The left one sits next to an Ikea vase and faux plant. I'm thinking about adding some blue to this vase. On the right is a blue vase I picked up at Target on clearance filled with more d...

More Ikea Hacks

Image
Ikea is a store I frequent often so I love to see transformations of the store's pieces.  They have affordable products but you must admit, they are kind of basic and everybody has them.  These hacks take Ikea items from pretty basic to cool, one of a kind pieces. The addition of the wood frame on this Expedit turned changing table gives it a mid century modern look.  I've been digging the two tone look lately. My mouth fell open when I saw this Vittsjo nesting table turned into a tufted ottoman.  Pretty chic huh? I love this gold and white Vika desk .  The spray painted gold legs turns it up a notch and pair well with the gold polka dots on the wall.   The linen wrap on this Rast makes it look more expensive.  I like the dark gray color she chose. How cool is this Angenam plate turned light?  I've seen this plate in Ikea before but I never would have thought to make it into something totally different. ...

Gray and Pink Girls Bathroom

Image
I know my daughter's bathroom is done but I can't help to think what it would look like with a different color palette.  I love pink and gray together so I started browsing the net and found these. source   source source unknown So I put together a board of pieces I could use to decorate my daughter's bathroom if I were to change my mind again (not that I would do that).  I would go with light gray walls and pink and white accessories.  I think I would add board and batten like in our foyer for the bottom half of the walls.  Painting the vanity white would make the room feel brighter.   vanity /  stool / rug / tumbler / soap pump / shower curtain / towel / light / bathroom rules art I think my daughter would love it since her favorite color is pink.   Sharing with DIY by Design * Ginger Snap Crafts * Seven Thirty Three * Simply Designing * Sew Much Ado * Someday Crafts * The Blissful Bee * A Crea...

TV Gallery Wall

Image
The gray accent wall has been painted.  You can see that here , when I posted about the mounted TV.  We initially chose to go with the same color as our office, Behr Grayve Yard.  I bought a quart and got to work.  I've experienced that paint goes on lighter and dries darker.  As I was painting, I was desperately hoping it would dry much darker but it never did.  The office has all four walls painted and the lighting in the office looks different than the loft area.  I think these two differences made the color appear lighter in the loft.  So we made a decision to go darker.  I looked through my paint swatches and went with Behr Intellectual.  It's a really dark gray and almost looks black in person. We made another trip to Home Depot.  I still had half the quart of Grayve Yard left and didn't want it to go to waste.  I asked the paint guy to darken it to Intellectual.  Since the bases for the two colors are completely d...

A Miami Penthouse

Image
I get updates from a local site here that informs residents of things going on around the city.  When I saw they posted pictures of Pharrell Williams' Miami penthouse, I had to take a peek.  It's always fun to see how celebrities live. His house is 10,000 square feet with five bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and a rooftop pool.  It overlooks Biscayne Bay in the Miami Keys.  It is currently listed for sale for $11 million dollars. Look at how open the living room is.  Those pendant lights are gorgeous!  How many people could fit in this room for a party?  I love all the windows too. The dining room is simple but pretty.  There's another beautiful light over the dining table with seating for twelve. Hubby would love this movie room.  Enough room for all the friends to come over and hang out.  Those chairs look comfy to me! Look at the view from the rooftop pool. This is the view from his windows. ...

Model Home Inspiration

Image
Do you ever wonder what the inside of the house across the street looks like?  What's their floor plan?  What's their design style?  I do all the time.  New houses are still being built in my neighborhood and I love walking through the empty ones before they are sold.  This gives me a chance to see other floor plans and how the house is laid out.  What makes this experience even better is when the houses are staged.  In my neighborhood, there's only one model house that's staged. When I come across signs for new subdivisions nearby, I love to stop by and take a peak.  Model homes are great places to get ideas for your own home.  Sure, sometimes model homes are staged very unrealistically and too perfect but gives you general ideas about decor items or placement of furniture.  I also like to look online for new subdivisions because usually the model home pictures are there as well. I love the openness of these two spaces .  An...
